Synthesis
a game for generating collective thought
An idea is a thought space you draft and invite people into — a question worth a group's attention. Its title sits at the centre of everyone's map, and the idea becomes whatever its collaborators put underneath it. Up to fifty people, each under a handle that means something inside that one idea.
- Think privately firstGrow your own map of the idea — hubs, thoughts, the context behind each one. It stays yours until you publish it.
- Respond, and carry it homeAnswering someone's published thought places your stance on their post and drops a linked copy onto your own map. Add your own thinking to it and it becomes yours.
- Take the unionOne read of everything the group has published, cited back to who said what. Edit it into words you would stand behind, and put those to the group.
- Find synthesisEveryone holds three slots, shared between writing statements and backing them. When two thirds of the group stands behind one, the idea is in synthesis.
Synthesis is a living measure
It stays live. Backing moves, better words arrive, new people join — and the measure follows. Anyone who reads where the group landed and sees it differently can put up their own words and move it. Getting there is the group's achievement, and so is finding better.
Synthesis runs at synthesis.holoscopic.io — a Holoscopic account is all it takes, and there is no economy to learn: publishing, replying, and voting are free.
